So here we are at the beginning of a new year... a new decade in fact. I don’t do ‘resolutions’ but I do like to take a moment to reflect on the year that has been and then consider my hopes for the year ahead. Just like moving house, I think of what ‘old things’ I’ll take with me and what gets ‘kicked to the curb’. As I think over the past year, the past decade even, there are standout lessons I’ll be taking with me into 2011 as well as some things I hope to leave behind.
I will remember my Creator. I will remember His faithfulness and goodness; His love and His grace. I will remember to be thankful in all things and to look to Him as the source of my hope and strength. These are ‘keepers’.
The things that get cleaned out are those things that hinder me and hold me back from being all that God created me to be. The old habits, addictions, hurts and disappointments; whatever form it takes in each of us, it’s an opportunity to leave them all behind on the rubbish tip of the old year and start new.
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily hinders our progress. And let us run with endurance the race that God has set before us. (NLT)
It is time to dream again. Time to dream bigger dreams that aren’t earth bound. Ask God to place His dreams in our hearts for this coming year and let's chase them with all of our might.
My prayer for the New Year is that we will be prosperous in God’s eyes, in the ways that matter to Him and that His Holy Spirit will be at work in us and through us; that we might know Him more and more and that our lives will be evidence to the fact that He lives, He loves and He saves.
I hope you have a very happy and prosperous New Year in the best sense... and you'll know His blessing in all you do.
