What is it about the line in Avatar “I see you”, or when I’m given a gift that shows that person really understands what I like?  I have a friend that has ‘pet’ names she uses randomly that implies a closeness in our relationship... it all strikes a very deep chord in me as I am sure it does in everyone. A few years ago, I was sitting at the table talking with my dad and he took my hand for a moment and made a comment about my hands being just like my Auntie’s.  It was such a simple little thing but a really special moment that I will always treasure. I felt known and loved in that moment.  It wasn’t anything to do with what my hands look like but it was everything that he noticed them... he saw me.

At the heart of every person (especially us women!) is the desire to be known, loved, accepted and understood.  For many different reasons, sadly we don’t experience it very often.  It’s the busyness of life; perhaps fear, past hurts, insecurities, or prejudices that hold us back.  I know people do it to me and I do it to others and we live our lives keeping a ‘safe’ distance from people.  I don’t know about you but I find myself craving it sometimes; that people would see past the ‘outward appearances’ and ‘see me’ and likewise that I would have the grace to do the same for others.  What a different world it would be hey?  Imagine if we had Jesus’ eyes, where we could see past the ‘masks’, the skin and behaviours and see the real person.  Sure we would see a whole lot of rubbish (certainly the case for me) but Jesus’ eyes are also full of grace, mercy, love and forgiveness and He has the capacity to handle all of that ‘stuff’, and in spite of it all, still see the person made in His image.   He is the only one who can really say “I SEE you” and amazingly, it is closely followed by “I love you”.  That’s awesome!

Psalm 139:17-18  How precious are your thoughts about me, O God!  They are innumerable!  I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up in the morning, you are still with me!
