I have been going through some ‘stuff’ this week, just feeling tired, worn down, discouraged by a couple of situations and I was a long way from being in the festive, Christmas spirit.  I prayed that the Lord would lift me out of it and help me to get the victory.  (You will see my prayer on the reflections page called One piece at a time).

Well, this morning I opened my Bible in the hope that God would speak words of life back into my weary spirit.  I just needed to hear from Him and He lead me straight to Revelation 2 and 3.  These chapters focus on persevering and overcoming... Excellent!  The phrase “He who overcomes” is mentioned 7 times in those 2 chapters and is followed with a promise of blessing.  There is a string of blessing that comes to those who overcome.  I’ll just give you a few of my favourites.

Rev 2:17 ...I will give a new name, known only to him who receives it

Rev 2:28 ... I will give him the morning star (referring to Jesus himself Rev 22:16)

Rev 3:5 ...will be dressed in white and his name will never be blotted out from the book of life but his name will be acknowledged before the Father and the angels

Rev 3:21 ...I will give the right to sit with me on my throne.

These are pretty awesome promises!  Victory and blessings, they are ours for the taking, all because of Christ.  In John 16:33 Jesus warns us saying, ‘In this world you will have trouble’, but then He comforts us with this, ‘But take heart! I have overcome the world.”  By His death and resurrection, Jesus defeated the powers of evil and those who put their faith and trust in Him for salvation share in that same victory.

I Cor 15:57  Thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1 John 4:4  You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them because the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

God is so good. I have been really blessed and encouraged this morning by these words.  There is a lightness in my spirit again as I release my worries to Him and claim the victory that is mine through Him.  It’s Christmas!!...time to celebrate the birth of our Saviour Jesus, our Overcoming King.  I hope yours is especially wonderful, filled with His hope, peace and love.
